A new website has been created on the 15th of August, 2011 called Australian Grasslands Association (www.australiangrasslands.org.au). The Australian Grasslands Association is a partnership initiative of the Grassland Society of Southern Australia Inc. and The Grassland Society of NSW Inc. to undertake a regular comprehensive and critical review of the pasture research industry, to set the scene, detail completed and ongoing research projects and the gaps in research, and develop recomendations for future research investment.

Call For Papers

The Australian Legume Research Symposium

There has been a great response to our initial call for papers for the Australian Legume Symposium with a number of high quality papers received. However, due to an overwhelming number of requests the deadline for submission of abstracts had been extended until Friday, 21st October 2011. That deadline has now passed.

The Australian Legume Research Symposium will set the agenda for investment in legume R, D & E in Australia for the next 10 years and provide a forum for researchers to interact, exchange ideas, and to debate how to take the next quantum leap in legume research? The themes of the symposium are:

  1. Role of legumes in Australian Farming Systems
  2. Current legume research to address gaps (in cropping and permanent pasture zones)
  3. Addressing specific gaps/problems
  4. Directions for future legume research
  5. … what happens next?

Papers are invited from authors with expertise and experience within these themes. Papers by producers and the broader industry describing there own systems, issues, problems and solutions are also welcome.

Papers will either be selected for either oral presentation or poster presentation, based on quality and content. Keynote presentations in each theme will be invited papers. Abstracts of papers selected for oral presentation and full poster papers will be included in the symposium proceedings. Full papers from the invited and selected presentations will appear in a special edition of Crop and Pasture Science.

Authors are requested to provide a brief description (abstract) of their proposed paper by Tuesday October 4 2011Friday 21st October, 2011. Full papers will be required by Friday December 9 2011. Papers should identify and verify the issue or problem, demonstrate solutions and likely success as well as stimulate debate and discussion.

When preparing your brief description and full paper please follow the guidelines available on this web site.

Pasture Innovations Research Project

The pasture innovations research project will effectively deliver a regular, structured, broad based review of the main components of the pasture industry and assist greatly with improving growth and development rates of pasture based industries. This inaugural symposium focussing on legume research will be pivotal in setting the research agenda for the medium to long term as well as providing a forum for the scientific community to discuss and put forward ideas and concepts aimed at potentially generating the next quantum leap in industry.
